USTA/MIDWEST OCTOBER VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH
Vanessa Purdom | Vincennes, Indiana

Central Indiana Tennis Association (CITA) is proud to recognize Vanessa Purdom for her enthusiastic pursuit of revitalizing tennis in her community of Vincennes. She grew up playing tennis in Greenville, Kentucky, and wanted to introduce her two daughters, Anna and Savanna, to the fun, exercise, and competitive spirit of tennis. Vanessa contacted CITA to inquire about USTA programming options, and from that call the Knox County Girl’s Jr. Team Tennis League was created.
Vanessa is a Professor of Law at the University of Vincennes. Outside of work, she volunteered as the Clark Middle School Tennis coach in the spring of 2014. Vanessa contacted other middle school coaches to recruit players for the first USTA Jr. Team Tennis League held in the summer of 2014. She also arranged for the matches to be played at the University of Vincennes.
Vanessa encompasses so many of the qualities we see in people who play and support tennis: goal driven, altruistic, organized, and committed. The CITA staff appreciates Vanessa’s efforts to grow tennis in Vincennes, and looks forward to supporting her plans in 2015.
