AUGUST VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH
Tammy Simone | Cleveland, Ohio

The Northeastern Ohio Tennis Association (NEOTA) is proud to honor Tammy Simone as this month’s featured volunteer in recognition of her outstanding efforts as the NEOTA Strategic Plan Committee Chairperson.  As Chair, Tammy worked with the committee to develop a survey to solicit community input, interpret the results, and gain NEOTA Executive Board approval for the new Strategic Plan launched in early 2015.  Tammy and the committee are looking forward to the NEOTA Board of Directors bringing the vision of the Strategic Plan to life.

Tammy was born and raised in Mansfield and spent most of her childhood on the courts of Lakewood Racquet Club in Lexington.  She was a four-time No. #1 player for her high school and finished 4th in the state tournament her senior year. Tammy played college tennis at the University of Notre Dame where she earned the Team Captain, Most Valuable Player, and Top Scholar Athlete awards her senior year.

Tammy moved to Cleveland after college, joined the Cleveland Racquet Club, and continued to play in local tournaments and leagues. She has been a member of the Midwest Intersectional Senior Women’s Team and In 2011 she competed in National 45-and-over tournaments, finishing the year ranked No. #3 in the country. Unfortunately, she also finished the year severely injured and has just recently returned to the game.

Tammy has a double major in Marketing and Communications from The University of Notre Dame and an MBA in Finance and Strategic Management from The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. She worked for Aetna Annuities for several years after graduating from Notre Dame, ranking among the top sales agents in the country. After receiving her MBA she joined Ernst & Young’s consulting business, working with her clients to develop their strategic plans and improve their core processes. Later in her career she took an internal role with the firm, managing E&Y's Executive Reporting group.

Tammy has volunteered on a number of boards and committees in Cleveland, including having served as President of the Cleveland Racquet Club. Most recently, she has served in various school and local groups while homeschooling her younger son.

Having lived and played tennis in Northeast Ohio for most her life, Tammy appreciated the opportunity to contribute to the future of the NEOTA as the Chair of the Strategic Plan Committee. She looks forward to seeing the vision outlined in the Strategic Plan come to life.
