Smith Named PTR Member of Year for Indiana

Congratulations to USTA/Midwest Section Diversity and Inclusion Specialist Brandon Smith, of Indianapolis, for being named PTR Member of the Year. Smith was presented the award during the 2013 PTR International Tennis Symposium. The award is presented to a PTR member in the U.S. who has shown dedication and diligence in promoting and supporting tennis and PTR.

A PTR Professional in Adult Development and 10 & Under Tennis, Smith has spent most of his life in learning, playing and promoting the game. As a young player in Cincinnati, Ohio, Smith began to build upon his knowledge of the fundamentals of tennis on and off the court to direct his career path.
 
 
After graduating from Howard University, Smith worked with local and national tennis programs in various capacities before joining the USTA/Midwest to help service over 90 diverse tennis programs, including those focused on adaptive and wheelchair tennis. Smith's vision is to see the sport of tennis reach the popularity of football and basketball in communities and schools throughout the country.
 
The 2013 PTR International Tennis Symposium took place May 2-5 in Hilton Head, SC, and included 50-plus on court and classroom presentations for tennis teachers and coaches, a trade show and tournament.
