Jared Hiltzik wins Boys’ 18s Singles Title; Paul Oosterbaan Captures Boys’ Titles
Jared Hiltzik, 17, of Wilmette, Ill., won the boys’ 18s title at the 2011 USTA Winter National Championships on Monday, and Paul Oosterbaan, a 16-year-old from Kalamazoo, Mich., captured the boys’ 16s title. Many of the nation’s top junior tennis players competed in eight USTA National Championships in five cities last week.
Hiltzik entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed and defeated top-seeded Kristofer Yee of Las Vegas, 6-2, 6-3, to capture his first career national singles title in Phoenix. Hiltzik dropped just one set – in a tiebreak in his fourth round match – en route to the title. He will enroll at the University of Illinois in the fall.
