COLUMBUS METROPOLITAN TENNIS ORGANIZATION

The Columbus Metropolitan Tennis Organization (CMTO) was founded more than 40 years ago, back in 1973, and was inspired by the famous “Battle of the Sexes” tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs. The organization began with just a handful of tennis enthusiasts from the LGBT community and today it boasts nearly 100 players from the LGBT community and their allies.

MILWAUKEE METRO TENNIS CLUB

The Milwaukee Metro Tennis Club was started in 1991 by Bill Wardlow and Gary Ozuna with the mission to provide a safe environment for gay tennis players and their friends and family. Not only was the club a way for players to work on their game, it provided an alternative social outlet than what was available at the time. The club started with only 9 players, but today it averages at least 40 players in its popular league.

INDY TENNIS

IndyTennis is a non-profit social tennis organization that was started in 2004 and is now celebrating its 10th season. The group is affiliated with the Gay & Lesbian Tennis Alliance (GLTA) and the USTA/Midwest Section and is an official USTA Community Tennis Association (CTA). IndyTennis welcomes players of all abilities and backgrounds and hosts tennis play and social gatherings for members, family, and friends.

SECOND CITY TENNIS

Second City Tennis (SCT) is an organization formed to serve the gay and lesbian community of Chicago. It was started in 1987 by a small group of LGBT tennis enthusiasts with a mission to create and support competitive and social tennis programs for the LGBTQ and allied communities, and promote unity among its membership. The organization formed its first Board of Directors in 1998 and just last year, it began its association with the Athletic Alliance of Chicago.
